An Post to run National Lottery until 2010

AN Post is to continue running the National Lottery until the end of 2010.

Finance Minister Brian Cowen last night granted a two-year extension to the licence, which was due to run out in 2008.

In recent months, An Post had sought an extension.

According to a spokesman, the minister decided, following consideration of the issues, including the satisfactory performance of the National Lottery Company to date and its medium-term plans, that an extension to the current licence was appropriate.

A successor licence willtake effect from the beginning of 2011.
