FedEx signs up Vietnam postal company

FedEx, the express delivery company, Monday appointed a Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) affiliate as an authorized agent in Vietnam.
Under the three-year contract, Post Office Express Joint Stock Company (PCN) will mostly handle air cargo services for the US-based company which has had a presence in Vietnam for over a decade.

Dang Thi Bich Hoa, chairwoman and general director of PCN, said the cooperation between a global parcel service provider and a leading Vietnamese express delivery company (80 percent of the domestic market) would mean convenient services for clients.

FedEx first established operations in Vietnam in 1994 through a business alliance with VNPT in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

It now has representation in HCMC, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Danang, and 10 other major towns across Vietnam.

FedEx delivers more than 3.3 million items in 210 countries each working day, and has 145,000 employees and 663 aircraft.

In related news, the Vietnamese government recently gave the go-ahead to global express and logistics giant DHL for setting up an express delivery service in the country.

The venture, a 51-49 venture between the German firm and VNPT, is expected to be up and running early next year, providing services in eight cities and provinces.
