GLS Spain: We are committed to offering a service that adapts to our customers’ changing needs

GLS Spain has shared its results regarding its performance in parcel deliveries to pick-up points over the past year. A total of 20 million parcels were managed through this channel, representing an increase of more than 40% compared to the volume recorded the previous year.

These figures reflect a growing trend toward Out Of Home (OOH) deliveries, which have tripled, reaching 1.5 million deliveries to convenience points in certain months of the fiscal year. Currently, GLS Spain has over 7,700 pick-up points within its OOH network, including official GLS Spain Agencies, Parcel Shops, and Parcel Lockers. This service, which offers consumers a wide variety of options to manage the collection of their packages, already represents 17% of the company’s total volume.

As part of its expansion strategy, GLS Spain is promoting the installation of smart lockers or parcel lockers across the country, reinforcing its commitment to flexible and sustainable delivery solutions. To this end, the company has entered into strategic agreements with leading operators in the retail, food, and fashion sectors, enabling the expansion of its network of convenience points in high-traffic and easily accessible locations. These collaborations allow consumers to collect their packages during extended hours and in commonly frequented places, contributing to improved last-mile efficiency and reduced environmental impact from transportation.

According to the report Ecommerce in 2023 by Observatorio Cetelem, the trend toward sustainability continues to shape the direction of deliveries, with 71% of users choosing pick-up points for both sending and receiving parcels. Of this group, 34% have used these points to return products— a significant increase that reflects a shift in consumer preferences toward more efficient and environmentally friendly options. As the parcel delivery sector evolves, GLS Spain has adapted its operations to prioritize quality and sustainability.

“Consumers are increasingly demanding flexibility and a variety of delivery options. This trend is especially relevant among shoppers who look for alternatives that match their schedules and lifestyles, without ignoring the environmental footprint; hence the development of the Out Of Home (OOH) model with convenience points and lockers,” highlighted Juan Sandes, Chief Strategy Officer at GLS Spain.

This trend not only enhances the customer experience but also contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions, making last-mile logistics more efficient and sustainable. “We are committed to offering a service that adapts to our customers’ changing needs while caring for the environment,” affirmed Juan Sandes of GLS Spain.

GLS Spain has implemented advanced technologies and upgraded its infrastructure to optimize delivery flows and improve service quality. The company has seen growth in its network of Agencies, Parcel Shops, and Parcel Lockers, strengthening its presence across Spain.

In the past year, GLS Spain has added more than 2,000 new locations to its convenience network, reaching over 7,700 active pick-up points nationwide. This growth has been made possible through strategic agreements with local businesses and other partner establishments. With this expansion, GLS Spain consolidates its position as a key player in urban distribution and in developing sustainable logistics solutions. Additionally, the company has deployed an exclusive private network in large residential communities, further facilitating access to delivery and collection services for users.
