Nearly 4,000 people join Correos in permanent positions

From the beginning of November, CORREOS will have nearly 4,000 additional permanent employees in its workforce. At that time, 3,177 people will take up full time, permanent positions as a result of the vacancies advertised earlier this year and the entrance examinations that took place on 23 July. A further 800 people will take up stable employment with the company to help provide the Universal Postal Service in rural areas. And in the next few months, a further 5,000 people will be employed on permanent contracts for specific times of the year; these workers will help cover holiday periods and peak times, such as the summer and Christmas campaigns.

This system will encourage the dynamic and decentralised incorporation of workers to permanent positions, and will enable vacant positions to be covered more effectively, resulting in an increase in the quality of employment and an increase in the quality of the postal service provided to our customers.

PROMOTING STABLE EMPLOYMENT

In this way, CORREOS is continuing to create stable, high-quality employment, and it will continue its commitment to follow this path in the coming years by continuing to apply the new entrance system in the face of labour market insecurity, giving priority to stability of employment within the post office. As a result, in the proposed Budget for 2007, it is estimated that the workforce will consist of 67,000 employees next year: the largest in Spain.

The workers joining the company at the beginning of November on a permanent basis will carry out delivery, on foot and on motorbike, classification and customer service duties.

With regard to the geographical distribution of the new jobs, 47% of the permanent positions are in Madrid and 24% are in Barcelona. A further 3.5% are in Seville, and 3% are in the Balearic Islands and 3% in Tenerife. The remaining positions will be distributed around the country based the needs of the company in each province.
