NZ Post Chief Executive David Walsh to step down
The Board of NZ Post has announced that Chief Executive Officer David Walsh has decided to step down in the first half of 2027, after almost 10 years.
Speaking on the announcement, NZ Post Chair Dame Paula Rebstock, said: “After 12 years with NZ Post, and almost 10 years as Chief Executive, David has decided the time is right for him to pursue the next stage of his career including accepting a number of governance opportunities.”
“David will leave NZ Post in a significantly stronger position because of his leadership. He has led the delivery of a multi-year technology and parcel automation transformation, responded to systemic mail decline and focused on long-term commercial sustainability while continuing to deliver strong customer outcomes. Importantly, this saw a return to profit in FY26,” Dame Paula said.
“On behalf of the Board, we thank David for his contribution to NZ Post and his continued commitment over the coming months,” said Dame Paula.
Reflecting on the decision, Chief Executive David Walsh said: “It has been an absolute privilege to lead NZ Post and I am incredibly proud of what the team has achieved during my time with the business. I look forward to watching as NZ Post continues to build on this success,” said David.
The Board is focused on ensuring a smooth and well-managed leadership transition, with the full support of the outgoing Chief Executive. A formal recruitment process will begin shortly, aiming to appoint a successor in the coming months.
