Bpost has reached another milestone in the electrification of its fleet. By the end of October, 4,165 electric vans will be on Belgian roads, representing 42% of its total van fleet. That is four times as many as three years ago. More than 1,100 new electric vans will have joined the fleet this year, just in time for the end-of-year peak.
With Black Friday and the holiday season just a few weeks away, Bpost is finalising the rollout of its new electric vans. Of the 1,100 vehicles ordered this year, nearly 900 are already on the road. The remaining vehicles will gradually enter service over the coming weeks, replacing combustion-engine vans that have reached the end of their service life.
The number of electric vans has been growing steadily for several years. In 2023, Bpost had approximately 1,000 electric vans. By June 2024, that figure had risen to more than 2,000, reaching 3,146 in autumn 2025. By the end of October 2026, the total will stand at 4,165. That represents an increase of approximately 1,000 electric vans each year.
This fleet renewal comes as Bpost prepares for one of the busiest periods of the year. In November and December, the company can deliver more than 800,000* parcels per day in Belgium. The new vans will hit the road ahead of this peak period, initially complementing the existing fleet before replacing combustion-engine vehicles that have reached the end of their service life.
Today, more than 150 postal codes are served by delivery rounds with no direct emissions, for both letters and parcels. This marks an important step towards Bpost’s target of having 85% of its last-mile fleet made up of CO₂-emission-free vehicles by 2030. This ambition is part of Bnode’s (the group to which Bpost belongs) greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, which have been
validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
“The renewal of our fleet is part of a broader transformation of our logistics network. In just three years, we have gone from approximately 1,000 to more than 4,000 electric vans. With these vehicles, as well as our electric bicycles, bike trailers and electric trucks, we are gradually adapting our operations to meet tomorrow’s needs, while continuing to provide reliable service throughout Belgium” – Rik Vandenberghe, National Fleet & Equipment Manager, Bpost
