Deutsche Postbank in talks to acquire holdings in Asian post banks
Deutsche Postbank AG is in talks with several peers in Asia about acquiring stakes in them, chief executive Wulf von Schimmelmann told daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
‘Asia is a very important market. We are in talks with some post banks there,’ he said.
In regard to the upcoming sale of Landesbank Berlin, von Schimmelmann said he doubts a purchase would make sense for Postbank.
‘Berlin is already a stronghold for us. We have a market share of 17 pct there,’ he said.
Other acquisitions in Germany are also not on the bank’s agenda following its recent takeover of building society BHW and 850 of Deutsche Post’s branch offices, he said.
Von Schimmelmann declined to comment on rumours that he is to resign before the end of this year. ‘These rumours have been around for months and I will not comment on them any more,’ he said.
