Transport Logistics: DHL Goes Climate-Neutral

From June 12 to 15, 2007, DHL is presenting innovative logistics solutions based on its GOGREEN climate-neutral shipping initiative at stand 201/302 in Hall A5 at the Munich Transport Logistics exhibition. The Express and Logistics specialist at Deutsche Post World Net is promoting its pioneering role in the area of environmental protection by offsetting all CO2 emissions resulting from its participation during the four-day event: this includes the transport of the exhibition stand and materials, transport of staff to and from the exhibition, and also the energy consumed by the technology needed to run the stand at the exhibition.

For the first time DHL is demonstrating its environmental protection initiative in Munich as a comprehensive holistic solution for several business departments. Therefore from autumn 2007 DHL Exel Supply Chain business customers will be able to make use of climate-neutral offers. As is the case for GOGREEN products in the Parcels and Express branch Deutsche Post World Net will also be offsetting the CO2 emissions arising through environmental protection measures both within and outside of the company.

Moreover, visitors to the exhibition can experience a global innovation live at the DHL stand: a parcel robot which recognizes, picks, and sets down loose, standardized parcels by itself. The system has been in use since the beginning of this year at the DHL Logistics Center in Essen and enables containers to be unloaded entirely independently. The parcel robot is the result of an interdisciplinary cooperation project between Deutsche Post World Net, Astrium Space Transportation and the Institut für Betriebstechnik und angewandte Arbeitswissenschaft (BIBA) at the University of Bremen. Automation specialist ThyssenKrupp Krause will in future handle the production and integration of the system in international logistics centers throughout the world.

A third focus of the exhibition is a lecture program with presentations by DHL experts alternating on an hourly basis. Topics range from the new DHL airfreight hub in Leipzig to the logistics market in Asia and current developments at the DHL Innovation Center.
