Agreement expands Western Union's intra-country money transfer services in Chile

The Western Union Company announced it has entered into an agreement with EGT of Chile, a holding company for several transportation providers including Tur-Bus, to offer intra-country Western Union-branded services.

With this agreement, Western Union intra-country services will be offered at approximately 500 locations, including all Tur-Bus locations throughout Chile. EGT, in addition to other Western Union Agents in Chile, already offers Western Union outbound money-transfer services to Western Union Agent locations worldwide.

This agreement will enhance Western Union’s domestic money-transfer business using Tur-Bus and EGT’s network of locations. The Agent locations will begin offering Western Union intra-country services by the end of the year.

“Western Union is a global name consumers know and trust,” said Fernando Fernandez, General Manager of Tur-Bus. “With our newly branded domestic service and Western Union’s world-class Agent network reliability, reach and capability, we will be uniquely positioned to enhance our consumer experience.”

With this agreement, a Chilean consumer will have an additional 500 locations from which to send and receive funds to and from friends and loved ones throughout the country – no matter if he is traveling or living in another city from his family.

Liz Alicea-Velez, Executive Vice President, Latin America and the Caribbean, Western Union, said, “Today’s announcement builds upon our intra-country strategy to deliver new ways for our consumers to conduct seamless transactions in Chile.”

As economic and social climates change, many countries have seen traditional remittance patterns change. With its extensive Agent network in more than 200 countries and territories around the world, Western Union is uniquely positioned to respond to these trends. The robust, global Agent infrastructure has enabled countries that traditionally only offered consumers the option to receive funds to quickly and easily become sending countries, and allowed others, such as Chile, to add domestic transfers in a market that was primarily international.
