TNT tops Royal Mail on branding

TNT has been classed a Business Superbrand ahead of rival Royal Mail in a recent YouGov survey of the UK’s strongest B2B brands for 2008.

The survey was commissioned by Business Superbrands UK Ltd and canvassed the views of more than 1500 business professionals. Within the list of top 500 brands, TNT is ranked 118, 22 places ahead of Royal Mail, its leading competitor in the UK postal market.

The announcement comes as TNT Post, celebrates its fourth anniversary of becoming a downsteam access provider in the UK mail market. Since signing the agreement in April 2004, TNT Post has made great strides in its mailing proposition for UK businesses. In the last 12 months, TNT Post’s downstream access business has experienced more than a 60 per cent growth in its mailing volumes and the company now delivers an average of 160 million items a month. With its broad range of services, TNT Post enables both businesses large and small to benefit from the high quality and innovative services that competition has brought to the postal market.

Building on its superbrand status, TNT Post is currently working on a number of new initiatives that will enhance its service to customers. Recent developments and achievements include:

* TNT-it, the new web-based service for small volume business mailers launched in November 2007 in the North West. The service enables SMEs the opportunity to benefit from postal savings for the first time. It simplifies the postal process and helps reduce an organisation’s carbon footprint. If the product continues to gain momentum in the north, TNT Post will look to roll the product out to other regions and national customers later in the year.
* Allsort, a service introduced last year for organisations needing a cheaper alternative for a mixture of non-machine readable mail including handwritten, overseas, large letter or un-routable items.
* The addressed and unaddressed mail divisions of TNT Post in the UK achieved certification in ISO 9001 and IIP respectively during 2007. The entire company is on target to achieve certification in both these areas during 2008 along with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. Operational performance is strong, delivering high levels of quality of service consistently in excess of 99 per cent.
* TNT Post is contributing to customers’ strategies on CSR by helping them to become more ‘green’ in their mailings. Work is currently underway within TNT Post to create a more eco-friendly mailing product.
* TNT Post in the UK is working with The CarbonNeutral Company and the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management to develop a calculator that allows organisations to calculate the emissions of mailings. As part of the carbon reduction process, steps are taken to ensure best practice in the areas of data hygiene, returns, un-deliverables and paper type. As a business, TNT Post is also working towards becoming a fully carbon neutral organisation in the future.
