British courier CitySprint makes regional acquisition

CitySprint has acquired Birmingham-based courier company PBS Deliveries for an undisclosed sum to expand its national network whilst further strengthening its established Midlands operations.

CitySprint, with 31 locations and a fleet of over 1,500 couriers, said that despite the current economic turmoil it is continuing its successful growth strategy of focussing on organic expansion and strategic add-on acquisitions to maintain its strong foothold and grow its market share.

The company has taken over PBS’s city centre location and will retain its staff as well as its 25 self-employed couriers. PBS owner and founder Kris Mazumder will remain at CitySprint as Logistics Manager, managing the Birmingham business.

CitySprint, with 31 locations and a fleet of over 1,500 couriers, said that despite the current economic turmoil it is continuing its successful growth strategy of focussing on organic expansion and strategic add-on acquisitions to maintain its strong foothold and grow its market share.

Ben Haynes, Managing Director Regions, said: “Birmingham is one of the UK’s top three cities in terms of courier activity and this acquisition is a great example of our strategy to achieve increased market share in key commercial locations. PBS is a very strong local city-based business and by joining forces we have created Birmingham’s largest dedicated SameDay courier company which will benefit the service all of our customers receive locally and nationally.”

The company has taken over PBS’s city centre location and will retain its staff as well as its 25 self-employed couriers. PBS owner and founder Kris Mazumder will remain at CitySprint as Logistics Manager, managing the Birmingham business.

“Our customers now want more from their courier provider – good old fashioned local customer service is essential, however to stay ahead we now need to offer enhanced service options such as online booking, online live tracking, environmental options and the national coverage which allows us to offer a truly on demand national service,” Mazumder said. “With a combined Birmingham fleet of over 70 dedicated vehicles supported by the largest national fleet in the UK, plus all the additional services I can now offer my customers, I am really excited about what we will achieve.”

PBS customers will now benefit from access to considerably enhanced OnLine services. CitySprint operates the largest GPS enabled fleet in Europe which means that its customers benefit from real-time information at the touch of a button. CitySprint has taken the bold step of offering complete transparency to its customers about the courier services they use. From the point of booking CitySprint’s customers can view, through CitySprint’s CourierLocator facility on their website, a real time map location of the courier doing their SameDay Courier delivery and a step by step job progress audit and electronic proof of delivery through QuikTrak.
