FedEx to cut 540 trucking jobs
Economy forces job losses at FedEx Freight and National LTL
FedEx officials announced 540 job losses at trucking businesses FedEx Freight and National LTL because of economic conditions.
FedEx Freight president and CEO Douglas G. Duncan told employees of the action in a memo earlier this week.
The memo outlined changes that will affect personnel at 150 facilities across the Freight and National LTL network: 280 employees at Freight East, 170 at Freight West and 90 at National LTL.
The reductions affect about 1.5% of the trucking network’s 35,000 employees nationally.
Some employees will be given an option of moving to jobs elsewhere at FedEx, while others will be offered severance packages, FedEx spokesman Maury Lane said.
The staffing cuts come as trucking firms nationally cut back on personnel in the face of sagging demand and revenues.
