FKI Logistex win TNT contract

FKI Logistex has been awarded a contract to design and install a parcel sortation system based on the ‘green’ LS-4000E sorter at TNT Pakketservice’s parcel distribution centre in Utrecht, Netherlands.
TNT Pakketservice awarded the contract to FKI Logistex as part of the Planet Me initiative through which TNT aims to become the world’s first mail and express delivery company to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions.
Planet Me includes actively reducing carbon dioxide emissions from TNT’s daily operations, encouraging employees to take actions that will help save the planet, and transparent reporting on TNT’s carbon footprint.
The FKI Logistex LS-4000E sorter’s green credentials were a major factor in the award of the contract. Innovative new motor technology means that the LS-4000E uses 75% less energy than comparable sorters with conventional motors. In addition to lower carbon emissions, the new motor technology also enables the LS-4000E sorter to achieve life-cycle costs which were significantly lower than any of the other sorters assessed by TNT.
Albert Rodenboog, director operations, TNT Post Pakketservice, said: “The fact that this sorter uses less energy than comparable sorters and is both money-saving and good for the environment as well, made us choose this machine.”
The complete FKI Logistex installation will comprise an LS-4000E tilt-tray sorter with six feeding conveyor lines and 46 chutes, as well as registration stations for out-of-gauge and non-conveyable items. Providing a total capacity in excess of 11,500 items per hour, the system will incorporate Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, as well as state-of-the-art control software with easy, user-friendly interfaces.
The modular design of FKI Logistex’ hardware and software systems mean that the installation will combine custom configuration for the TNT site with field-proven reliability and robust performance.
Ole Vitting Petersen, head of sales, FKI Logistex Post & Parcel Europe, commented; “FKI Logistex’s strategy has been for our systems to combine benchmark material-handling efficiencies with state-of-the-art technology which reduces cost and carbon dioxide emissions. Customers are increasingly choosing systems which can help them to make a real difference to the future of the planet and demonstrating their commitment to investment in green technology.”
