DHL Express remains tight-lipped in face of media reports it plans to slash 800 jobs in China.
Local Chinese media cited unnamed sources saying that DHL is planning to lay off 800 of its staff in the country and move all its credit control departments, now scattered around the nation, to central China’s Chengdu city in Sichuan province, in a bid to save costs.
In response to an inquiry from Lloyd’s List, Anita Gupta, head of corporate communications and sustainability, Asia Pacific, said: “DHL is not moving offices to Chengdu. We are exploring the possibility of centralising back-end finance activities for greater efficiency and standardisation – these services are currently undertaken in a number of locations throughout China.”
