The Postal Services Bill, which plans the partial sale of the UK’s Royal Mail, has had its first initial reading in the House of Commons on 21 May.

The reading, which took the plan’s opponents by surprise, was expected to have its first reading in June, after it was passed throught he House of Lords on 20 May.

It is now believed that a second reading could happen as soon as 1 June, when MP’s reconvene after their Whitsun break.

An anonymous opponent of the Bill was reported by The Indedepent as saying: “This dramatically reduces the opportunity for debate and amendments and could be seen as stifling debate around the future of our postal services.”
