New sorting system for DHL Olso

The Vanderlande Industries has installed a new parcel sorting system at the DHL terminal in Oslo, Norway.

Since the order was placed at the beginning of 2009, the DHL and Vanderlande Industries project teams have been working at top speed to get the system up and running before the summer holidays. The system was taken over by the DHL Oslo team on 22 July, and operations from the new location were started.

The system comprises four infeeds/unloading stations equipped with weighing scales. All infeeds lead to a central collector belt that transports the parcels to the sorter.

A central automatic camera acquires the parcel volumes and reads the barcodes to determine the sorting destination. After the automatic camera the parcels are sent to the automatic label applicators. These place labels on the parcels that can later be used by the operators for final manual sorting after handling by the sorting system. Automatic parcel sortation is by the posisorter with 37 destinations and a capacity of 5,000 parcels per hour.
