USPS proposes cockfighting ad ban

USPS has proposed banning cockfighting advertising from being sent through the mail, reports the Associated Press. The article continues:

Legal cockfighting ended in the United States last year when Louisiana outlawed it. But two magazines dedicated to the practice — The Gamecock and Grit and Steel — still are published.

The Postal Service has proposed a change that would label publications with ads for fighting birds or accessories as “unmailable.”

The Postal Service says it will take comment on the proposal through the first week of September.

The Humane Society of the United States has been pushing the Postal Service to change its rules. The group also filed a lawsuit against Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc. in 2007 in an attempt to get the online retailer to stop selling what is says are cockfighting magazines.
