DHL adds 767s for Trans-Atlantic flights

DHL Express has launched a 767 freighter express service across the Atlantic, reports The Journal of Commerce. The article continues:

The first of a new fleet of extended range 767 freighters completed a commercial flight from Leipzig, Germany, DHL’s main European hub, to New York’s JFK airport, on 22 September.

A second 767 will link JFK and the UK’s East Midlands airport this month, followed by a third in October, between East Midlands and Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati.

In all, six 767 extended range freighters will join the DHL fleet by the end of 2012.

The aircraft will be fully owned by DHL and replace the shared capacity of MD-11 freighters currently provided through a joint venture between DHL and Lufthansa Cargo.

DHL said the new aircraft, with a payload capacity of 59 tons, will help it to boost the on-time performance and reliability of its trans-Atlantic services. The freighter flights also will enable DHL to expand its next day Time Definite trans-Atlantic services between the US East Coast and Europe.
