Australia Post praised for first CR Report
Australia Post’s first stand-alone corporate responsibility (CR) report will be released in October in conjunction with its annual report. The CR report was produced in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting framework. It was reviewed by independent international consultants Halcrow, to assess its structure, application level, disclosures and indicators.
In its review, Halcrow said that it considers Australia Post to be an emerging leading reporter in the international postal sector, displaying significant levels of disclosure and more comprehensive reporting of its CR performance than other industry peers.
Australia Post chairman David Mortimer said the publication of the corporation’s first CR report, and Halcrow’s endorsement of it, were particularly pleasing given the corporation was still in an early phase of its CR journey.
The seven key pillars of Australia Post’s CR strategy are to:
– minimise our environmental footprint
– invest in the communities where we operate and our people live and work
– offer responsible and valued products and services
– integrate sustainable sourcing across our supply chain
– engage our workforce to apply sustainability practices
– understand and be responsive to our stakeholders needs and expectations
– ensure effective governance and reporting.
Australia Post has self declared its first CR report as a GRI “B” Application level report. This was supported in the independent review by Halcrow, who suggested Australia Post is well placed to report at the GRI “A” Application level in the future.
