Thailand mailing costs will rise
The cost of mailing a letter will rise after the Communications Authority of Thailand is privatised, because the subsidy will stop according to reports in the Bangkok Post. The deputy governor said once the CAT is reorganised as a profit-making telecommunications company to compete with other operators, the loss-ridden postal service would then be taken over by a new organisation. Although an ordinary stamp costs only 2 baht, the real cost of handling and delivering a letter was THB3.95. CAT has subsidised the service to the tune of about a billion baht a year.
