2,000 and counting for UK Post Office
The Post Office has announced the installation of the 2,000th ATM in the UK through its contract with Bank of Ireland, placing the network in the UK’s top ten providers of fee free ATMs. The milestone ATM is located at Thornaby Post Office, Stockton-on-Tees.
Post Office ATMs are owned and operated by the Bank of Ireland. The roll out of free-to-use ATMs complements the free over the counter cash withdrawal service available in all 12,000 Post Office branches, and its extensive and expanding range of financial products and services, including mortgages, savings products, car and home insurance and travel money.
Gary Hockey-Morley, marketing director at the Post Office, said: “We think it’s important that people are able to access their cash free of charge, no matter where they live or who they bank with. These ATMs are part of our ongoing commitment to helping our customers and making sure they have access to key financial services when they need them.”
The installation of the first Bank of Ireland ATMs across the Post Office network began in October 2005. The Post Office offers the largest fee free cash withdrawal network in the UK, with over one million cash withdrawals made every day in branches across the UK.
Swarnjit Sidhu, sub-postmaster at Thornaby Post Office, said: “My customers really value being able to use their local Post Office to get their cash. It’s great that we are now able to offer this additional free service to our customers.”
