DHL opens Australian Sony facility

DHL Supply Chain has announced the official opening of a new purpose-built facility for Sony Australia and Sony Computer Entertainment Australia. The 20,000m² warehouse, based at Erskine Park in Sydney, is the result of a six-month construction period and will provide increased efficiencies for Sony by housing its consumer electronics, broadcast and professional and PlayStation products in the one location.

“As well as having a great new facility, we can also provide integration for two Sony companies within the same warehousing premises. As a result, Sony will achieve increased efficiencies and significant improvement in customer service,” said Terry Ryan, senior vice president – South Pacific, DHL Supply Chain.

“The new DHL facility will provide Sony Australia with greater flexibility in managing fluctuations in the demand for warehousing,” said Nic Foster, general manager of business operations for Sony Australia.

“As a business, this will further strengthen our supply chain and allow us to adapt to the needs of our retail partners across the country. The inclusion of Sony Computer Entertainment in this facility will result in material and practical benefits for both our businesses in the areas of operational efficiency, freight optimisation and customer service.”

In addition to the warehouse space, the new facility offers 600m² of office space and has been built to satisfy green credentials with rainwater capture and native vegetation on site.

DHL Supply Chain was appointed Sony Australia’s logistics operation supplier in 2008.
