De Post-La Poste approves financial results

The General Meeting of Shareholders of De Post-La Poste approved the company’s 2009 figures today. The final audited figures for 2009 are “completely in keeping with the trends announced in February by Johnny Thijs, CEO of De Post-La Poste,” said a company spokesman.

De Post-La Poste said that it had responded promptly and boldly to the consequences of the tough economic crisis in 2009. Resolute measures were quickly taken to drive down costs, enabling the company to generate good results and so maintain the positive trend of recent years.

As a result of the crisis De Post-La Poste experienced a fall in volume (approximately 4%) – high compared with previous years when the decrease was around 1%, but less severe than in many other European countries where it was as high as 10%.

Financial results reached a “more than respectable” level, due to additional cost savings of €35m. Income did fall slightly from €2262.4m (2008) to €2250.1m (2009) (-1%), but operating results experienced positive growth. Normalised EBITDA rose from €312.5m to €341.7m (+9.3%) and normalised EBIT rose from €221.9m to €240.1m (+8.2%).
