Court Backs Spain Post Monopoly

Court Backs Spain Post Monopoly
August 13, 2001 — Reuters: “A Spanish court has upheld accusations against a private courier company of ‘infringing’ services operated by national post office Correos y Telegrafos, the post office said on Monday. An appeal by the company, International First Class Courier (IFCC), was rejected by the regional high court in the Canary Islands last week after the regulatory authority, the Development Ministry, ordered the closure of five of the courier’s offices, said a Correos statement. The closure measure was taken because IFCC was found to be ‘persistently infringing the exclusive rights’ of the post office by handling the distribution of postcards from Spain.”
