Tesco and Sainsbury’s hit by weather

UK supermarkets Tesco and Sainsbury’s have been forced to revise online shopping operations due to the severe weather conditions in Scotland. Whilst the company’s grocery deliveries are not being affected, Tesco Direct said that they have suspended orders for customers living in Scotland.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s said that whilst customers based in Scotland are able to order online, there is no guarantee products will be delivered in time for Christmas.

Speaking to Post&Parcel, a Tesco spokesman said: “Every delivery company operating in Scotland has been affected by the recent severe weather.

“We don’t want to cause disappointment to customers and have taken the decision to suspend new Tesco Direct orders in Scotland. We are working hard to ensure that orders already placed with us are delivered.”

When contacted by Post&Parcel, a Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We have resumed taking non-food orders for standard delivery to Scotland, however due to the continued adverse weather conditions we are unable to guarantee these orders will arrive before Christmas”

“Our grocery online deliveries are continuing as normal.”

More bad weather is expected to hit the UK later this week.
