Australian mail disrupted by floods

Australia Post has advised that there are major disruptions to mail delivery to and from flood-affected regions of Queensland. “Australia Post’s people are working tirelessly to maintain normal mail services and minimise delays where roads are still accessible in the flood affected areas of Queensland,” a company statement said.

It is unknown how long mail delivery to the flood-affected areas will be disrupted, as this will depend on advice from local emergency services.

Australia Post said it will put extra emphasis on the safety of its staff.

With heavy rains still forecast, the operator said it cannot guarantee street delivery in many flood affected towns, but is committed to delivering where safe to do so.

A spokesman said: “The situation is changing rapidly, so it is difficult to give definitive advice regarding which locations are receiving mail as it is subject to change.

“Mail is being flown to larger destinations that are still accessible by air, however, more urgent freight takes priority when space is limited, so outside of major population areas delivery is still limited and irregular.”
