Gagewell bought by Clipper

I heard today that Gagewell, the Leeds based haulier specialising in cigarettes and drink has been bought by the Clipper Group. Clipper is a fashion logistics specialist managed by Steve Parkin and believed to be financed by Philip Green.

Gagewell was owned by 3i, a sleeping partner and the MD Michael Badrock. 3i and the sleeping partner have been bought out. Michael has taken a holding in Clipper. The Gagewell management remain and any integration of the two businesses will be slow and measured.

From Motor Transport 20.9.01:
Leeds based Clipper Group has bought Gagewell Transport and its parent company Norman Group for an undisclosed sum. Clipper Group chairman, Steve Parkin, says “We believe that the new enlarged Clipper Group has the potential to become the UK’s leading logistics solution in the retail, bond and high-value sectors.”
The enlarged group now has seven sites across the UK – 4 in Yorkshire and 1 each in London, Nottingham and Crewe – and employs more than 500 taff. The company has a fleet of 150 vehicles and 46,400 sq m of warehousing.
