New TNT depot up-and-running in Perth

TNT’s new fully automated parcel sorting hub in Western Australia is now fully operational. Located in Welshpool, near Perth, it is largest fully automated parcel sorting system in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

TNT’s new AUS$40m depot is part of a two-year AUS$100m investment to “enhance parcel and freight delivery across Australia and internationally”.

Measuring 20,000 square metres, the depot will help TNT establish itself as “Australia’s number one express freight delivery service”.

The depot uses the CROSSORTER 900 sorting technology system provided by Vanderlande Industries.

TNT Australia’s managing director, Bob Black, explained that the new depot will help improve customer service.

“This new depot has the potential to redefine efficient freight transport.

“The advantage of developing on a Greenfield site is that we have been able to plan for future growth and the increasing demands of our customers for efficient handling and innovative services.

“Vanderlande Industries has proved to be a competent and reliable partner to support us in reaching these goals.”

The CROSSORTER 900 provides solutions for handling mixed flows of postal and express parcel products.

This includes the sortation of products that widely vary in size, including odd-shaped items such as bags, shrink-wrapped products and mailings.

Vanderlande said it will now provide TNT Australia with after-sales support as they get to grips with the new system.

Roald de Groot, key account manager of Vanderlande Industries, said: “Our philosophy is to provide the customer with support throughout the life cycle of the system. This will ensure consistently high system availability, with a service response within an agreed time to any issues that may arise.

“We are also committed to supporting TNT in continuous improvement and optimisation of its operations.”
