DHL Express plane crashes in Gabon

A DHL Express cargo plane has crashed into the sea off the African country of Gabon. The incident happened on Monday afternoon local time, off the coast near the nation’s capital, Libreville.

Four crew members were onboard, who were later rescued from the water by speedboat. There were no fatalities.

DHL confirmed the plane – an Antonov An-26 freighter operated by Solenta Aviation Gabon – flies regional routes on behalf of the express company.

Speaking to Post&Parcel, Deutsche Post DHL spokesperson Sabine Hartmann said: “We are currently working with the local authorities to find out what happened. Four people were onboard the plane, who all escaped almost unharmed. The plane was carrying no cargo.”

According to reports, the plane took off from Port Gentil, Gabon’s second city.
