UPS Foundation aids Japanese NPO Hibiki

The UPS Foundation has donated $17,890 to the Japanese non-profit organisation (NPO) Hibiki. The grant will be used for its greening programme where acorn seedlings are planted in Tokyo, Chiba, Niigata, and Yamanashi prefectures.

A student-led volunteer organisation, Hibiki, was established in 2001 and later incorporated as a non-profit organisation in 2003. It runs a wide range of activities intended for the Japanese youth, who will form the next generation, to see themselves as citizens of both Japan and the world.

These activities include the greenery programme, the rice farming programme, and the international cultural exchange programme.

Since 2007, UPS has been involved with Hibiki through monetary donations and volunteer work.

For the last four years, more than 200 UPS employees have donated more than 700 hours of service to projects such as acorn sapling arrangement and as English tour guides for foreigners visiting the Meiji Shrine.

Masato Umeno, president of UPS Japan, said, “We are pleased to be able to contribute not only monetary donations but also as volunteers by leveraging our UPS employees’ skills acting as English tour guides for foreigners on behalf of NPO Hibiki. UPS will continue to support the organisation in various means.”
