Royal Mail are sticking £1m in stamps

DAILY RECORD 24th October 2001
MAIL ARE STICKING POUNDS 1M IN STAMPS

MAIL chiefs are jumping on the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? bandwagon with a megabucks Christmas promotion.

And it’s guaranteed to make the festive season first class for 36 customers.

The Royal Mail has hidden game cards in books of 12 and 24 first class stamps.

One will reveal the illustration of a diamond stamp worth pounds 1million.

Another 10 will contain ruby stamps worth pounds 25,000 each and 25 sapphire stamps worth pounds 10,000 each.

And bosses stress the odds of winning are better than the National Lottery.

Gilian Wilmot, managing director of business and consumer markets, said: “It doesn’t cost anything to play because you still get your stamps.

“In every other market people trade up at Christmas.

“Traditionally, our customers trade down, switching from first class to second class stamps to send Christmas cards.

“We hope this promotion will encourage people to stick with the first class service.”

The Christmas stamps, which feature robin red breast birds, go on sale on November 6.

The promotion will be plugged on billboards and bus stops close to Post Offices and in newspapers.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host Chris Tarrant will also feature in a Christmas advert for the Post Office.

Meanwhile, Royal Mail is hiring up to 25,000 extra staff to cope with the Christmas rush.
