Jessie Ting named as Hong Kong's next Postmaster General
Clement Cheung has stepped down as Hong Kong’s Postmaster General to become the province’s top customs official, to be replaced by another civil service stalwart, Jessie Ting Yip Yin-mei.

Cheung, who had been head of HongKong Post since September 2009, was named this week by the Hong Kong government as its Commissioner of Customs and Excise, with the appointment taking effect today (September 1).
He took the position vacated by Richard Yuen Ming-fai, who becomes Hong Kong’s health minister on September 9.
HongKong Post is temporarily being overseen by deputy postmaster general Eddie Mak, who is acting postmaster general until Ting takes over next month.
The Chinese Service Bureau confirmed that Ting will become the new Postmaster General on October 3. She is currently Hong Kong’s Deputy Secretary for Development (Works).
Civil Service Secretary Denise Yue said the new appointees were all “seasoned administrative officers with rich experience in public administration and proven leadership and management skills”.
“I have every confidence that they will continue to serve the community with professionalism and dedication in their new capacities, and ably lead their offices to meet the challenges ahead,” added Yue.

Clement Cheung Wan-ching, 49, had been Postmaster General in Hong Kong since September 2009, after a career in the civil service that stretched back to 1983 including roles in various bureaux and departments.
Ting, 48, also has an extensive career history in various civil service bureaux and departments, stretching back to 1985.
Deputy Secretary for Development (Works) since September 2009, she previously served as Deputy Secretary for the Civil Service from June 1001 to June 2005, Private Secretary to the Chief Executive from 2005 to 2007 and Deputy Secretary for Security from 2007 to 2009.
Previous to those roles, Ting worked in agencies ranging from the Housing Department to the Economic Services Branch, Finance Branch and Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau.
