Itella to use address verifying software from Syslore

Helsinki-based software house Syslore is now providing address verification and search systems for Itella Corporation. As Finland’s postal operator strives to trim its costs in the face of declining mail volumes, the new technology should help improve efficiency for its Itella Information Service unit, according to Syslore.

Itella Information Service includes Itella’s change of address and forwarding services for mailing customers, directing mail to changed addresses while also providing information on address changes to mailers.

Syslore’s Intelligent Address Lookup software will speed up the clearing of changed data and the overall accuracy of the service, it said.

The web-based system can search the Itella database to compare information against address information in letters, using a “fuzzy search” that can find similar addresses and names, or differently-written versions of names and addresses.

The tool can also check the accuracy of barcodes and ensure the sender has the right to use the service.

“In this way, Itella can detect any possible cases in which the sender uses the information service without authorisation,” Syslore explained.

Syslore, which has offices in Denmark as well as at its Finnish home base, secured a deal earlier this year for Swedish-based postal operator PostNord to use its address recognition software.
