Yodel wins e-commerce delivery deal with pet food retailer

British parcel delivery company Yodel has won a new contract to provide shipping services for online retailer Pet Supermarket.co.uk. The deal will see Yodel – the firm that rebranded from the Home Delivery Network after taking over the domestic operations of DHL Express UK last year – as sole delivery partner for the retailer.

For Yodel’s Business and Neighbourhood Services division, that means around 250,000 deliveries of pet food and supplies each year.

Starting next week, Pet Supermarket.co.uk users will be offered three shipping options, ranging from one-day to three-day delivery.

Hatfield-based Yodel, which describes itself as the second largest parcel delivery business in the UK after Royal Mail, won the Pet Supermarket.co.uk deal from incumbent Parcelforce.

Yodel sales director Jerry Kane said: “With the continued move towards online retailing, the way we shop and do business has changed and consumers need a delivery service which fits in with their busy and often unpredictable lifestyles.

“Our Neighbourhood and Business services provide Pet Supermarket.co.uk with cost effective, flexible, fully trackable delivery options that meet the needs of its fast growing business by putting the customer in control.”

Delivery guarantee

South Tyneside-based Pet Supermarket.co.uk, part of internet marketing business Viverdi Ltd, has been operating since 2004, and this year has seen year-on-year growth in its first half results of 47%.

The company is expecting a 30% saving on its shipping costs through the Yodel deal.

Its founder and managing director Mark Berriman said: “We offer our customers a five point guarantee, which includes ‘delivery when it suits you’.

“Yodel’s services help us to fulfil that promise and from 12 September customers will be able to choose from a variety of Yodel’s options including 24, 48 and 74 hour delivery – which can be essential when buying medication for your pet.”
