Kerry Logistics expanding Asia network, building hub in Singapore

Kerry Logistics has started construction on a new logistics hub for the South Asia region, in Singapore. The new four-storey facility will boast 34,500 square metres of space to support the company’s integrated logistics services for its clients in the region.

The company headquartered in Hong Kong said the new hub will be the focus for all its Asian supply chain activities when it is completed in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Robert Tan, managing director for South Asia at Kerry Logistics, said: “This regional logistics hub will facilitate a comprehensive range of integrated logistics services for our customers in Asia.”

The new building is being designed to make use of environmentally-friendly technologies, including an energy-saving design that makes maximum use of natural light to help reduce energy consumption.

It is to feature a rainwater harvesting system that will irrigate the surrounding landscape, and a high-efficient air-conditioning system.

“We are incorporating “green” features into the design in order to reduce waste and save energy,” said Tan.

Expansion

Kerry Logistics is in the middle of a major expansion period at the moment, opening a new 10,000 square metre logistics centre in Hanoi, Vietnam, at the end of August, and is currently building a number of logistics centres in China, having opened two such facilities in Chongqing and Kunshun in March.

The company acquired controlling interests in two logistics companies in Shanghai in July, building its presence in ocean freight and third-party logistics.

In the last few weeks, Kerry Logistics has secured some important contracts with blue chip companies, including a distribution contract with fashion retailer Hugo Boss in Hong Kong and China, and a contract with IKEA in Thailand.

Samuel Lau, director of Kerry Logistics in Hong Kong said the company was “well positioned” to provide logistics services for Hugo Boss in China.
