TNT Express inks retail alliance with Mail Boxes Etc Malaysia

Mail Boxes Etc. Malaysia, part of the international retail franchise network, has forged a strategic alliance with shipping integrator TNT Express. The deal will see the 26 independently-owned and operated Mail Boxes Etc (MBE) franchises across Malaysia offering a variety of TNT products and services, the companies said today.

This will include time definite express services delivering to more than 200 countries.

All new MBE franchises in Malaysia will also now offer TNT Express services along with services from existing MBE partners that include UPS, DHL, City Link Express, Air Asia Courier and Pos Malaysia’s PosLaju.

The companies hailed the alliance as bringing together MBE’s three decades of retail experience with TNT’s “extensive” European and Asian express infrastructure.

MBE and TNT Express will be launching a “Year End Bonanza” special offer to attract customers later this year, in which redeemable cash vouchers will be handed out when TNT services are used.

Brian Chow, managing director of MBE Business Corporation, said: “Customers will now be able to experience a unique blend of MBE’s convenience and TNT’s efficient and cost effective solutions.”

Growth

MBE was founded in San Diego, California, in 1980, but while its operations in the US, Canada and India were sold to UPS in 2001 to ultimately merge with The UPS Store network, the rest of the international network were eventually sold to the Italian family-owned Fineffe Group in 2009.

TNT Express Malaysia managing director SC Chong said his company grew more than 40% last year in Malaysia, despite the tough economic conditions, and is expecting a double-digit growth this year.

Chong said of the MBE link-up: “This partnership is one that combines the strength of both companies in offering more options and better service for express services users.”
