Norway Post freight unit acquires transportation company
Posten Norge freight division Bring has agreed to acquire Norwegian transport company Bergen Container & Transport (BCT). The deal for an undisclosed amount adds a company with 20 vehicles operating mainly on Norway’s West Coast, but which also provides shipments abroad.
The two companies had already been working closely together for a number of years.
BCT was founded in 2002, with its headquarters located in the docks area of Bergen, in western Norway. Sales have grown from NOK 8.3m in 2004 to NOK 64m last year.
The acquisition, through the Bring Linehaul unit, remains subject to approval from Norway’s Competition Authority.
Arne Bjorndal, executive director at Bring, said: “The purpose of the acquisition is to provide even better solutions in the market with an optimal co-ordination of staff and resources. For example, through the development of trailer and container services in and around Bergen.”
Bjorndal said both organisations will continue to operate as they are, though activities would be more co-ordinated to improve their services.
However, he said Bring would be co-locating key members of staff quickly following the acquisition in order to ensure proper coordination between the units.
Posten Norge is seeing much of its growth at the moment in its logistics division, as letter volumes decline. The BCT acquisition comes just a month after the company acquired a Swedish transportation business and its subsidiary.
