Deutsche Post to integrate digital mail into IBM office software

Deutsche Post has struck a deal with IT giant IBM to expand the use of its E-Postbrief digital mail service among office workers. The deal will see the E-Postbrief service added as an option to IBM’s collaborative business software platform Lotus Notes.

Lotus Notes is a multi-user system operating from a server that allows staff to access email, office calendars and instant messaging tools as well as various document management features allowing for group working.

Deutsche Post said under its partnership with IBM, users will be given an option to send out important or confidential emails securely via the E-Postbrief service directly from within the Lotus Notes software – using their existing e-mail program.

Jürgen Gerdes, Deutsche Post’s board member for mail, said: “More and more, the E-Postbrief service is becoming a part of everyday business life. Our business customers benefit from its security and convenience without having to leave their familiar IT environment.”

Integration into Lotus Notes is only one facet of the agreement between Deutsche Post and IBM, who are also looking at other ways for E-Postbrief to be part of the IT consulting work and integration projects IBM carries out with business customers.

“The E-Postbrief service fits really well with our comprehensive consulting and integration approach,” said Martina Koederitz, general manager at IBM Germany.

“Using it saves money, and it integrates and accelerates communications processes. And that is precisely what our customers expect from us.”
