Japan Post ceases to accept Remail

ISSUE ALERT
December 18, 2001, 1:00pm

SERVICE NEWS:

We have today been informed via the Universal Postal Union that Japan Post has made the decision on to cease handling re-mail of any sort from January 1, 2002

As an example, mail that originates in the US from a US entity (First Party) with a US return address, has a Japanese mailing address as it’s final destination and has a Swiss Postal indicia is considered remail with the Swiss Post Office being the Third Party. Japan would accept the same mail processed by the US Post and having a US Postal Stamp, as it would be considered processed by a Second Party.

Please be aware that UPU and REIMS Countries are legally contesting this decision by Japan Post and that we as Swiss Post will do everything in our power to see that service is reinstated.

CMS would like to thank you for your assistance and patience through these trying times and assure you that we are doing everything in our power to prevent any service delays or interruptions. If you have any questions or concerns, please phone your client services representative for further information.

CMS would also like to take this opportunity to wish a happy and healthy holiday season to you and your family.
