SAPO introduces new money transfer system in Lesotho

The South Africa Post Office has introduced a new money transfer system that will allow migrant workers from Lesotho to deposit money at any post office in Lesotho. The South Africa Post Office representative, Ndala Mnisi, said the service has good security features and ensures that money is instantly available to the receiver.  “The sender chooses a secret code to release the transferred money and then communicates that to the receiver.  “Security is almost impossible to compromise because no third party is involved in choosing or communicating the PIN,” said Mnisi in a statement.

According to the statement, the system allows migrant workers from Lesotho to send money to their home country instantly from any post office in South Africa.

The money can be collected at any Lesotho post office. “The service features excellent security and the money is instantly available to the receiver. It is expected to be very popular with Lesotho citizens who work in South Africa, particularly because only a passport or identity document is necessary to use the service.”

Since Lesotho and South Africa are both members of the Common Monetary Area (CMA) countries, there is no limit on the amount of money that one person may transfer to Lesotho. Lesotho Post Office has a branch in each major town and this gives most Lesotho citizens easy access to the service with no need to trek to a large centre.

Miners, farm workers and construction workers from Lesotho who work in South Africa are among people who are expected to find the new service particularly useful.
