Poste Italiane to help Italy’s Basilicata region go digital
Poste Italiane has signed a deal to develop and manage a range of digital services for residents and small businesses in the Basilicata region of southern Italy. The Italian postal service’s chief executive Massimo Sarmi signed the framework agreement with the region’s president, Vito De Filippo, last week.
The regional government wants to simplify communications between its administration and citizens as part of a broader cooperation with the Italian postal service on innovative projects to help develop the local economy.
The new agreement lays out areas in which administrative systems will be developed including to improve the management of local health and taxation information.
A new range of services will be made available to local health authorities or municipalities that request them, allowing payments and documentation to be accessed at post offices.
Initial ideas include creation of a Health Desk within post offices in the region where appointments can be booked and documentation managed, laying the groundwork for a full “PosteCheckup” social care service to be launched.
Poste Italiane is also to be the technology partner for the region in further developing electronic mail services and a digital signature system.
Sarmi said: “Poste Italiane is always on the side of public administration and promotes innovation projects that appeal to citizens to simplify procedures, reduce the time and facilitate dialogue between individuals, companies and local and central public administrations.
“The agreement with the Basilicata Region combines the application of digital technologies with the vision of a model that is also innovative administrative management for the welfare system, both for internal projects and in favour of SMEs,” added the Poste Italiane chief executive.
