World mail and express industry leaders to meet in Singapore

Singapore provides the stage next week for the return of the World Mail and Express conference series to the Asia Pacific region after a break of several years. Industry leaders from within the region and outside will be meeting to discuss the latest challenges and opportunities at the spectacular Marina Bay Sands Singapore.

Among top speakers set to address the conference, Dr Wolfgang Baier, the group CEO of the event’s host, Singapore Post, will discuss how his ambitious company is expanding its role in the lives of Singaporeans and outside the country to become an e-commerce leader within Asia.

Japan Post’s executive vice president Toshirour Ito will detail how his firm has fought back after last year’s devastating earthquake and tsunami, and is now in the process of restructuring and reviewing how universal services are provided in Japan.

And, Thailand Post’s senior executive vice president of business development Thientip Chaichit will discuss how the Thai market has been evolving.

International operators will also be on hand at the conference to discuss the wider context for the Asia Pacific region and the development of the region’s logistics, including DHL Express Singapore managing director Herbert Vongpusanachai, bpost International CEO Peter Somers, and Jeff Foote, the postal development director for UPS in the Asia Pacific region.

Ecommerce

Ecommerce is currently transforming the logistics landscape in the region, where Internet penetration rates might only average 26%, but where nearly half of all the world’s Internet users currently reside.

With annual growth rates in ecommerce in the Asia Pacific currently averaging 33%, speakers at World Mail and Express including Clout Shoppe marketing manager Pei-Zhen Chong, Raffles Fulfilment managing director SK Ramadas Naidu, 4px deputy general manager Richard Li and GD Express CEO Leong Chee Tong will look at the opportunities.

The importance of returns and reverse logistics will also be on the agenda with Asia Pacific Post Cooperative business development chief Bui Bang Tam and Cycleon director Onno Boots sharing their expertise.

But the conference will also provide an important platform to discuss trends in key mail segments including direct mail, with views including those from Singapore Direct Marketing Association chair Lisa Watson.

Prospects for digital and hybrid mail will also be discussed, with the likes of Printsoft Pty Ltd managing director Stuart Drysdale and Escher Asia Pacific managing director Jasjit Nehal providing updates.

World Mail and Express Asia Pacific takes place from 26 June to 28 June at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, supported by Singapore Post, DHL Express, Neopost, bpost Asia, Deloitte, Experian and UPS.
