TNT invests in new sorting centre

TNT Express, which claims to be Britain’s leading business to business express delivery company, yesterday announced that it had invested over pounds 4 million in a parcel and document sorting centre at Lount in Leicestershire. Situated on a 12.5 acre site near the M1 and the M42, the complex was previously occupied by parcel carrier Panic Link which went into receivership last June. TNT said its investment would create over 200 new jobs for people in the East Midlands over the next two years and further strengthen its nationwide next-day hub and spoke delivery network.

The acquisition will augment TNT’s existing parcel distribution centres at Atherstone and at Kingsbury Link, where a pounds 22 million facility which created 400 new jobs was opened in September 2000.

TNT Express Services managing director Tom Bell said: ‘Unlike many of the carriers which have failed over the last two years, it has always been our strategy to charge a realistic rate for our services. This has produced a consistently strong financial performance over the last ten years and means we are once again in a position to re-invest in our network.

‘In the fiercely competitive express delivery business, customer satisfaction relies on a modern hub and depot network that can consistently provide a fast and reliable service. By increasing our capacity we can provide an even better service to our TNT depots which serve customers throughout the UK.’
