Pitney Bowes unit to drive cross-border ecommerce shipping

Mail services and equipment giant Pitney Bowes has formed a new business group to focus on global ecommerce shipping. The company based in the US state of Connecticut said its new unit will focus on growing its ecommerce solutions and cross-border parcel services for retailers.

The business group will help create a “seamless” online purchasing and shipping experience for consumers, it said.

Former Borderfree president Craig Reed has been appointed to lead the new unit as vice president, global ecommerce, overseeing strategy, sales and business development, reporting to Pitney Bowes mail services president Jay Oxton.

Operating in the cross-border shipping market since 2004, Pitney Bowes said cross-border parcels had been a particular focus for its activities in the past few years.

The company provides software-as-a-service and API-driven options for retailers designed to help them grow their sales abroad and streamline the international ecommerce process.

Growth

Oxton said the cross-border ecommerce market was “primed for tremendous growth”.

“Our new global ecommerce business group will help Pitney Bowes continue to expand the reach of our services to help retailers access global markets,” he said.

Global revenues for international ecommerce are set to treble over the next few years, according to the new industry report from consultancy Triangle Management Services.

Reed joined Pitney Bowes back in 2005 when the company bought Canada Post Borderfree’s Clearpath Technology unit.

Oxton said: “I am very pleased that Craig Reed will be leading this exciting business for Pitney Bowes. He possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in international ecommerce.”

Pitney Bowes said it is already working with several leading retailers on international ecommerce.

Earlier this year the company started providing ecommerce technology and international shipping services for French multinational luxury, sport and lifestyle goods retailer PPR, which has a EUR 12bn annual revenue selling in 120 countries.

Pitney Bowes is also working with fashion brand Billy Reid, fashion retailer Isaay.com and bag manufacturer Rickshaw Bagworks on international ecommerce.
