Prices tumble as companies compete to offer consumers the best deal
A price war has been ignited between some of the UK’s biggest parcel companies as they look to gain ground on a sector which was split wide open in the wake of Royal Mail Privatisation. Through Parcel2Go.com, UK’s courier comparison website, consumers can currently send parcels for as little as 99p – a substantial decrease on the lowest Royal Mail offer at £2.60. Other firms are following suit in a bid to gain favour with the public – Interparcel having temporarily reduced its lowest cost to £1.50.
December 2013 was one of the busiest ever months for parcel firms as the public continued to change its allegiance from the high street to online retailers. January traditionally sees a decrease in parcel volumes and proactive firms are keen to combat this by lowering costs to record levels. As the true effects of a privatised Royal Mail continue to emerge, there is expected to be a surge in new offerings from existing firms as well as new players entering the market looking to take advantage of an industry which is more egalitarian than ever. Shop-to-shop delivery is now one of the most economical ways to send a parcel and offers customers the convenience of sending and receiving parcels at a time and location close to them.
James Greenbury, CEO Parcel2Go.com says:
“The parcel sector is evolving more rapidly than ever before and it’s been interesting to watch how different companies are reacting. We’ve long been expecting a price war, and, as we are committed to offering the lowest price, naturally this is something Parcel2Go.com has been a major player in.. Don’t be surprised if these initial skirmishes lead to an all-out price war – which would be great news for the consumer!”
