Yodel sees Mother’s Day deliveries more than double

Yodel, the UK parcel carrier, delivered over 170,000 flower deliveries across the UK on Mothering Sunday, a 123% increase on the volume it handled on the same day last year. The company won significant new business on the back of its specialist capability for sorting and handling delicate items, such as wine, plants and bouquets, which cannot go through standard processes.  In total the carrier made 365,000 flower deliveries over the weekend (Friday 28 – Sunday 30 March), a 62% increase on 2013.

Yodel laid on a Sunday delivery service to ensure that mothers could receive their bouquet on their special day, while its workforce operated extended hours at sorts and service centres across the UK to cope with the increase in demand.

A flower control tower was set up at Chessington to monitor all trailer movements and send hourly updates to floristry clients, who were invited in to see how the operation worked..

As well as proactive pre delivery alerts to customers, which Yodel offers to retailers as standard, sons and daughters were able to track their orders via Yodel’s website, providing them with peace of mind and letting them know exactly when their gift had been received. In addition Yodel’s customer services, which are available on live webchat, email, social media and telephone, opened especially on Sunday to provide information and advice.

Yodel’s Executive Chairman, Dick Stead, commented on the boom in delivery volumes: “It’s great to see that Yodel has become recognised by the industry as the carrier of choice for such important, time sensitive and delicate deliveries. We now handle nine of the UK’s biggest florists and through careful planning and our partnership approach we were able to ensure that this key event went smoothly for thousands of families across the UK.”
