DHL to use Aeroflot for express

DHL has signed a deal with Russian carrier Aeroflot to handle the integrator’s express services between Moscow and Brussels. Under the terms of the contract DHL is guaranteed bellyhold space on Aeroflot flights, enabling it to offer a direct service between the two stations.
A spokesman from DHL says: “We have an agreement with Aeroflot, under the same con-
ditions as we do with other airlines, whereby we reserve space on its late night flight from Moscow to Brussels five times a week.”
DHL has previously offered some services between the two cities, but it could not provide a direct flight. Instead, services were routed through one of its other stations, for example, Cologne or Frankfurt.
DHL has looked at the possibilities of booking similar space on the return leg, but has so far decided against that, the spokesman says.
Aeroflot says it hopes to attract USS3 million in revenues from its express services over the coming year.
The movement into the express market is part of the Russian carrier’s overall strategy of driving growth in its cargo business this year. Aeroflot has not operated in this market previously, but says it can offer a better price to the integrator through its bellyhold capacity.
