Rico Logistics selects Peak-Ryzex to manage rugged mobile devices
Rico Logistics has awarded Peak-Ryzex the contract to manage the configuration of 850 Motorola rugged mobile devices which were inherited when Rico Logistics took over DHL’s Same Day courier business. Valued at £60 million prior to the acquisition, the takeover of DHL’s Sameday business enabled Rico to grow to £80 million with a fleet of more than 1,400 couriers and 40 locations across the UK and Ireland. Rico also has a significant presence in Europe.
The majority of Rico’s growth has been organic, which means the business is based on solid foundations with consistent working practices across the business. The contract awarded to Peak-Ryzex is an important step in the integration plan, as it means Rico continues to maintain consistency and uniformity – something the company believes is key to efficient working and further organic growth.
Designed to meet the requirements of mobile workers, the Motorola packs the features of a mobile phone, bar code scanner, camera, walkie-talkie and mobile computer into a rugged business-class device. These devices are used by drivers in Rico Logistics’ same-day courier division for capturing customer signatures on delivery of consignments.
The legacy devices from the acquisition underwent Peak-Ryzex’s “goldbuild” process to ensure consistency in terms of device configuration, security settings and software upgrades.
According to Keith Whitehead, Head of Strategic Development at Rico Logistics, one of the factors in the decision to award the contract to Peak-Ryzex was the company’s reputation in the industry. “We looked at other service providers as well, but we needed a company we could trust to do the job well in the short time-frame we had. Peak-Ryzex has a good presence in the marketplace, and came up with the right service at the best price and with the fastest turnaround time.”
