DHL’s Cubicycle takes to the streets of Almere
DHL Express has expanded its delivery fleet in the Netherlands with the introduction of the new Cubicycle. Manufactured by Dronten-based Flevobike, the Cubicycle is a quadracycle fitted with a removable, one-cubic-metre-capacity parcel container.
The Cubicycle has debuted in the city of Almere.
The four-wheeled vehicle is equipped with an electric auxiliary drive for faster starting acceleration and the rider’s reclining position makes pedalling easier and more comfortable.
DHL says that the Cubicycle’s container offers significantly more capacity than the standard delivery bicycles currently in use. The container can typically be loaded with shipments with a total weight of around 125 kg. Thanks to the reclining position and the auxiliary electric drive, the courier will be able to travel about 50 km a day on the Cubicycle.
As part of its GoGreen environmental programme, DHL has set itself targets for reducing its carbon emissions. The company believes the launch of more vehicles like the Cubicycle will contribute to this goal. DHL Group already operates a global fleet of 26,000 bikes, including 9,000 electric bikes or trikes.
