Draft agreement on mail delivery

Consignia and the Communication Workers Union have reached a draft agreement over the details of the postal operator’s plan to change mail deliveries.

The agreement, after months of negotiation, paves the way for an imminent start to 14 nationwide pilot tests of the arrangements that include scrapping the second post delivery and a longer first post delivery.

The length of the single delivery, of up to four hours, had been a bone of cont-ention for the union, whose members’ delivery runs are two-and-a-half hours.

Consignia said its plans to change mail deliveries, which should be in place nationally by the end of next year, would save it £350m.
